ACVO Vision for Animals - Request for Proposals for 2021 Founders Clinical Research Grant
*ACVO-VISION FOR ANIMALS FOUNDATION*
*REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS for 2021 FOUNDERS CLINICAL RESEARCH GRANT*
Deadline: *May 14th 2021 at 9pm CST*
The American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists’ Vision for Animals Foundation (ACVO-VAF) is a nonprofit organization that invests in science to advance animal ophthalmic health. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the ACVO-VAF is now calling for proposals for a Founders Clinical Research Grant in honor of the founders of the ACVO. The goal of this research initiative is to promote clinical research by ACVO board-certified diplomates practicing in private practice or academia. The ACVO-VAF Board members recognized that there was limited access to clinical research financial support through the VAF and therefore, initiated this new grant in 2019.
Applications are encouraged from academic institutions, private practices, or a collaboration between the two. Collaborative, multi-disciplinary teams of investigators who can approach discovery research from multiple perspectives will be considered a strength. Only one application is permitted from each Principal Investigator.
Funding is available for one project of one- to two- years in duration.
Projects must be completed by end of calendar year 2023. Proposals will be evaluated on significance of clinical problem, study design and scientific merit, innovation, feasibility of proposed research, and the potential impact on animal eye diseases. The inclusion of power analyses to justify sample size and the inclusion of carefully selected control animals is extremely important and will be considered by reviewers. Projects must adhere to the ACVO-VAF Policy for Animals Involved in Research (https://www.visionforanimals.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/2018-Policy-for-Animals-Involved-in-Research.pdf).
The grant recipient will be required to present complete study results at the annual ACVO conference within 2 years of the grant award. Regular progress reports will be required according to the ACVO-VAF’s terms and conditions.
The award will be a maximum of $10,000 (indirect costs are not allowed).
Funding decisions will be made in September 2021.
