Ophthalmology Specialty Internship at Animal Eye Guys of South Florida (2025-2026)
Come join our team in the sun and surf! We have 6 locations across the east and west coasts of Florida but this internship offering is primarily out of our Fort Lauderdale practice. We are a thriving ophthalmology exclusive practice with a diverse caseload. No emergency or after hours expectation. However, interns are expected to be clinics 5 days (4 days spent on the clinic floor and 1 day technically for study time/projects/potentially seeing a few cases if needed). Clinical duties will be conducted under direct supervision of a board certified ophthalmologist and will include diagnosis and treatment of companion animals, managing inpatients, and client communication. Interns are expected to assist our technical staff with patient care and preparation/recovery of surgical patients. We also work closely with rescue organizations and this affords our interns primary case responsibility and potential surgical experience. Opportunity exists to see equine patients and animals through the South Florida Wildlife Center. Interns will also participate in weekly rounds (combination of image recognition, Gelatt rounds, and journal club). We are looking for a highly motivated individual committed to achieving a residency and doing what it takes to be a competitive candidate. We have an excellent track record in placing candidates into residency programs.
Candidates must have completed a general medicine/surgery internship or have had equivalent experience and be licensed in the state of Florida prior to start date. We are unable to offer Visa sponsorship at this time. It is expected you will attend ACVO and it will be strongly encouraged to have a poster or podium presentation. Time off will be given for interviews and a COPLOW externship, if desired. Salary is $47,000/year with paid health benefits/licensing fees and CE allowance.
Please submit CV, transcript with class ranking, letter of intent, and at least 2 letters of recommendation to internship@animaleyeguys.com. Deadline is 1/25/25. Interviews will be conducted via Zoom shortly following. Points of contact: Dr. Amy Baker and Dr. Laura Proietto
