Ophthalmology Specialty Internship - Animal Eye Clinic - Charlotte, NC
Animal Eye Clinic is offering a one year ophthalmology specialty internship starting July 2025. The goal of this internship is provide the candidate with a mentored experience in clinical veterinary ophthalmology, with a focus on case management, diagnostic and surgical ophthalmic skills, and preparation for application to ABVO residency training programs. Duties will include small and large animal case management under the direct supervision of an ophthalmologist, communication with clients and referring veterinarians, and participation in ophthalmology rounds (journal club, topical rounds). The candidate will receive tremendous support from our six board-certified ophthalmologists. The position is full time with a start date in early July 2025. The start date can be adjusted based on the candidate's current position. The salary is $45,000 and the candidate will be eligible to participate in employee benefits, including 10 days of paid leave time per calendar year to use for vacation, CE, and sick days, the option to enroll in health insurance, a continuing education allowance ($1,000 annually), malpractice insurance coverage through the AVMA, paid licensing fees and professional memberships (NC license, AVMA), and scrub allowance.
Charlotte is a great place to live, with the excitement of a larger city, including amazing restaurants, theater, cultural events, lots of outdoor activities, and friendly people. With an international airport in the city, flights to most locations make traveling easy and quick. Our main locations are in Matthews, NC (South Charlotte) and Huntersville, NC (North Charlotte). We share our locations with other veterinary specialists that are available for consultation/collaboration when needed. We are equipped with all treatment and diagnostic modalities needed to practice high quality medicine (including CT scan). We also have a strong equine caseload and a private equine ophthalmology clinic (equipped with stocks, exam stalls, etc.).
