Veterinary team removes lesion from endangered okapi's eye
A team led by University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine ophthalmologist Caryn Plummer removed a congenital lesion made of skin and hair from the cornea of a 3-week-old endangered okapi at White Oak Conservation Foundation, preserving the calf's eyesight. The procedure itself was difficult, and separating the calf from her mother and putting her under anesthesia safely posed additional challenges.
