Description: WCVM is currently accepting applications for a 3-year Veterinary Ophthalmology Residency program combined with a Project-based Master of Science degree. The primary objective of the program is to train the resident in comprehensive; evidence based medical and surgical management of ophthalmology cases and prepare the resident for the ABVO board examination. A second objective is to expose the candidate to all aspects of academic veterinary medicine including teaching research and administrative work. The MSc is a project-based graduate degree that requires the student to complete a research project as well as graduate courses related to the area of specialty. The academic program includes bi-weekly literature review, weekly histopathology rounds, and regular attendance of human ophthalmology rounds at City Hospital. The Veterinary Medical Centre at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine has a growing ophthalmology caseload in small, large and exotic/wildlife patients. We offer a variety of diagnostic capabilities utilizing electroretinography, ultrasonography, optical coherence tomography, and fluorescein angiography as well as advanced surgical technologies including endoscopic laser and posterior segment surgical capabilities. The college offers specialty services in medical imaging, oncology, radiation oncology, small and large animal surgery, small and large animal internal medicine, dentistry, critical care, nutrition, sports medicine and rehabilitation and exotics. A salary of $40,000.00 CAD is offered, and the resident receives professional liability insurance and a student health and dental plan and Saskatchewan Veterinary Medical Association licensing fees.

Applicants must have completed a one-year internship or the equivalent of relevant practice. Applications are due November 11, 2024.
